Supporting the Adult Replacement Child to Come Into Being

The following is an edited version of a presentation given by Pat Dannahy at Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling (BCPC) at their (virtual) May conference earlier this year.

It directly covers research she did for her qualifying dissertation as a Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist.

Pat says of her work:

Nonetheless, my research is lifelong, and rests, too, on the work I completed  for my doctorate, granted by Kings College, London University, in 2000. This earlier work forms a bridge between the previous part of my life working in mathematics and more latterly, working as a mediator and psychotherapist.

My sense that it was important to share my research journey came from somewhere deep within me.  My decision to ‘go public’ is reinforced by my having checked various statistics, which I quote in my presentation.

You will hear me mention Tree in the presentation.  Tree Staunton is BCPC’s Director.  It was with her support that I presented at the conference, and with her permission that I am able to share the recording she made.

I hope you will find something of use to you here, whether as an adult replacement child yourself, or as a practitioner in the helping professions.
